Sweeten your Christmas with our honey-spiced gingerbread cookies. Not only are they delicious but also incredibly easy to make. The raw honey adds a subtle complexity to the flavour, keeping the cookies soft and chewy whilst adding a natural touch of sweetness.
Ingredients for the Perfect Honey Gingerbread Cookies:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup honey (we recommend our delicious [Your Honey Variety], but any will do!)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
How to Make Soft and Chewy Gingerbread Cookies with Honey:
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and honey until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the dough in half and flatten each half into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours (or overnight).
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out your favourite festive shapes.
- Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely
Decorating Your Honey Gingerbread Cookies:
- Royal Icing: Make a simple royal icing with powdered sugar, egg whites, and lemon juice. Use different colours and piping tips to create festive designs.
- Sprinkles and Candies: Add a touch of sparkle with colourful sprinkles, candies, or edible glitter.
- Honeycomb Glaze: For a unique twist, drizzle melted honey over the cooled cookies for a glossy finish.
Tips for Baking with Honey:
- Measure carefully: Honey can be sticky, so use a measuring spoon sprayed with cooking spray for easy release.
- Adjust flour: Honey can add moisture to dough, so you may need to adjust the amount of flour slightly.
- Storage: Store your gingerbread cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
